MacAmp is an MPEG Layer 3 (a.k.a. MPEG-3 or MP3) and audio CD player for the Macintosh. MP3 audio compression makes it possible to compress large audio files to just ten percent of their original size, with no audible loss of quality. MacAmp takes these compressed files and decompresses them in real time, while sending and buffering output to your computer's speakers. This results in small files that deliver top acoustic quality. It is even possible to download a CD-quality stereo sound file over an ISDN line and listen to it simultaneously. When you select the Interrupt mode, MacAmp will run in the background so that audio is constantly played no matter what you're working on. It is recommended that you read the included documentation files before using this program. Version 1.0b7 fixes bugs, adds support for the XAudio MPEG playback engine, enhances CD track naming capabilities, and improves the overall stability of the program. |

If you just downloaded an MP3 that was garbled, don't waste time deleting it! Run Uncook95, load the MP3(s), and click 'Uncook!' to get that CD quality sound. If you uncook ungarbled MP3's, this will render them useless. |
